Review of the West Side Story (1. Juli 2005)

We have read the book West side Story at school. The reason why we chose this book is that the book is a new adaptation of Romeo and Juliet. The love story is about two young people in love. The boy comes from America and is member of the gang the "Jets". The girl Maria immigrated to NY and comes from Puerto Rico. Her bother is the leader of the other gang the "Sharks". The "Jets" and the "Sharks" are hostile.

In my opinion the story is realistic and romantic. The story of the girl Maria and the boy Tony is romantic, because they find each other at the dance and then they are not allowed to love each other. It is realistic, because even today there are many people from different beliefs. Additionally the tension unfolds itself so it is interesting to read what happened next.
So it is fun to read this book

I think it is easy to read this book. The text is not so difficult and the vocabulary is explained at the bottom. It's easy to understand the story.
If people aren't good at English they can read the book easily.

The book is about two hostile gangs. One gang immigrated from Puerto Rican to the USA and that is the reason, why they are enemies. The Story deals with the aspect, that one Puerto Rican girl María fall in love with one boy of the other group Tony. During a fight, Tony kills the brother of María, because he had killed his best friend. María forgives Tony, but the best friend of Maria's brother kills him. And the story ends as the two hostiles groups carry the dead body of Tony away together.

I think the book was very interesting, because on the one hand it deals with the love of two people and on the other hand it deals with the hostility of two different groups.
The story is very exciting, because after the rumble you could think the book ends, but then it goes on and then there is another murder and there are signs of peace between the groups.

I would recommended this book for other English classes, it is interesting and because of the given vocabulary is easy to read for pupils. The content is very thrilling, because there are two different, but connected stories in it. Besides you can work good with the book, because the structure of the story allows for a lot analysing and interpretation.

In my opinion is the story of the book is good because it is easy to understand for non- English people. So it is fun to read the book. A part from the songs they disturb by reading the acts. The story is exciting because it changes.

We read the musical „West side story" because our teacher forced us to. We had no other possibility to choose an other book.

The book is about two gangs, the sharks and the jets, who hate each other. Also the drama is about a forbidden love, because Tony, a member of the Jets, loves Maria, who is the sister of Bernardo, the leader of the Sharks.

In my opinion the book is not really interesting. The story is a little bit boring. But the positive aspect is that the book is easy to read.

I would recommend this book to other people, because it is easy to read and not complicated, also the Story is full of tension.
