Diese 25 Songs, gepackt auf eine einzelne CD, zeigen die Tops in ihrer 1960er Blütezeit, als sie die Kompositionen von Holland, Dozier und Holland gleich reihenweise an die Spitze der Hitparaden beförderten. Zusammen mit den genialen Songs dieser Schreiber, ihrem sanften Motown-Groove und Levi Stubbs erdiger Leadstimme, landete die Gruppe bis 1967 elf Top 40 Singles, die alle hier versammelt sind. Leider vermißt man auf The Ultimate Collection solche späten Juwelen wie "Keeper of the Castle", "Ain't No Woman" und "When She Was My Girl", aber so hat man umso mehr Zeit, diese einzigartige Zusammenarbeit zwischen den Tops und ihrem Songwriter-Dreigespann zu bewundern. --Marc Greilsamer

schade nur Mono Abmischungen (17. Juni 2005)

ich habe mir diese CD gekauft, weil ich dachte orginal Universal Records wäre ein Zeichen für Qualität. Leider wurde ich enttäuscht, weil alle Titel nur in Mono sind. Ohne darauf im booklet hinzuweisen, verkauft Universal hier Oldies in "original single versions" also in der Mono version. Für Puristen akzeptabel ich empfehle die 2CD UK-Import Four Tops / Tempations "At Their Best" wo alles in sauberer Stereo Qualität abgemischt wurde und dazu noch die neueren Songs enthalten sind.

The best collection of one of the best Motown groups that ever recorded on this label,the quality and reproduction is first class and reawakes the emotions of the this period which represents the birth of the modern pop Music. For all generations that enjoy Music this collections is a must.

One of Motown's finest groups of the sixties, the Four Tops will be forever remembered for Reach out I'll be there, a timeless classic which opens this set. It was number one in Britain, America and many other countries.

This collection includes many other big hits, including Bernadette, I can't help myself, Standing in the shadows of love and Its the same old song, all huge hits in Britain and America.

Their first success came via Baby I need your loving, which gave them a top 20 American hit, but the song was covered by the Fourmost and it was their version that charted in Britain.

This is not a complete collection, as it omits If I were a carpenter and River deep mountain high, a song they recorded with the Supremes after Diana Ross left that group, but it really requires a double-CD to do full justice to this excellent group. Nevertheless, if you just want a single CD, all the tracks that really matter are here, superbly re-mastered.

Für dieses Album gebe ich mehr als 4 Tops ;-) (13. März 2003)

Spät, aber besser zu spät als nie bin ich auf den Geschmack gekommen, habe ich die Four Tops kennengelernt und bin seitdem verzaubert von diesen einmaligen Perlen schwarzer Soulmusik. Soul aber nicht nur. Was diese Songs so gut macht, ist diese reichhaltige Mischung. Soul, Funk, Jazz... Vieles was schwarze Musik so unverwechselbar macht, hört man in diesen Songs. Und wenn man dann weiß, dass die Namen Doziers und Holland dahinterstehen, wird dem faszinierten Zuhörer alles klar: hier werden Songs von Meistern selbst von Meistern interpretiert. Heraus kommt ein Album, dass jeden Fan gepflegter, klassischer Soulmusik begeistern muss!
