So we called our video connection, Juliana, and asked her for someone who could cover the making of the record in L.A. and beyond, you know, basically film everything! Enter Adam Dubin and his cohort Vinnie. For 9 plus months, they were there - all day and night (in the way) - letting the cameras run. Watch and listen as demos become finished, listen to why it realley takes us 9 months to complete an album. Meet producer Bob Rock with his sidekick Randy. Listen to Metallica jam on different versions of the new songs. Get it all: Mixing, mastering, mistakes, making videos, manufactoring, etc. Find out what we're talking about when we talk about the "joys" of the studio. "A year and a half in the life of Metallica" befasst sich mit dem Aufnahmeprozeß (Teil 1) und der anschließenden Welttour (Teil 2) des self-titled-Albums von Metallica (erschienen 1991). Der Zuschauer erhält Eindrücke aus dem Studio, wie der neue Produzent Bob Rock und die Band sich aneinander gewöhnen müssen und inwiefern sich die Band an ihn anpassen musste (z.B. Hetfields Gesang, Hammetts Art, ein Solo anzugehen) oder andersherum, und der Fertigstellung einiger Songs, aber über Interviews und Szenen aus den Aufenthaltsräumen auch einen Eindruck von den Bandmitgliedern selbst. Es wird auch sehr deutlich, wie viel Arbeit mit den Aufnahmen verbunden war, nicht zuletzt aus o.g. Gründen.
Eingestreut sind 3 Musikvideos von jenem Album, die sozusagen die einzelnen Kapitel abschließen. Alles in allem ein sehenswertes Video für Metallica-Fans. Einziger Wermutstropfen ist die kostspielige Aufteilung auf 2 Videokassetten, was einen Stern Abzug gibt.
