Sweeping Civil War-era romance (1. März 2004)

This adaption of Margaret Mitchell's Civil War-era romance won an impressive 10 Academy Awards including Best Picture for 1939. It follows the life of Scarlett O'Hara (Vivien Leigh) before, during and after the Civil War. Growing up on a lavish southern state plantation, she has men waiting to fulfill her every wish, but never gives up her hopeless love for Ashley Wilkes (in character her complete opposite) and realizes only too late her true love for handsome rogue Rhett Butler (Clark Gable). Scarlett masters every situation, she never gives up and fights for whatever she sets her mind to. Sometimes flirtatious, sometimes without scruples and unconventional, sometimes egotistical, but always very charming and irresistable. This film has opulent, gorgeous costumes, a brilliant soundtrack, and portrays the careless, arogant life of southern plantation owners before the War as well as problems of the post-Civil War time. For anyone who loves costume films, as well as anyone who is a hopeless romantic this film is a must. Not only the two main characters (Vivien Leigh and Clark Gable) are wonderful, Olivia de Havilland, Leslie Howard, Hattie McDaniel and others have helped to make the characters of "Gone With The Wind" immortal. Whenever an evening is spent with "Gone With The Wind" you will enjoy these costumes and opulent sets and either wish to be Scarlett O'Hara or Rhett Butler. And of course, Scarlett's famous statement "tomorrow is another day"...
