Not essential but interesting (20. September 2004)
This compilation includes a mix of Petula's hits and her versions of other classic songs. Many of her own hits are missing but this is still an interesting collection. Her own hits included here are Downtown, You'd better come home, Don't sleep in the subway, This is my song and The other man's grass is always greener. Petula was also the original singer of I will follow him, Call me, You're the one and I don't know how to love him (and had hits in some countries with some of these songs).
Also here are Petula's excellent versions of Every little bit hurts (a hit for Brenda Holloway in America and the Spencer Davis group in Britain), We can work it out (Beatles), Groovy kind of love (Mindbenders), Happy together (Turtles), Let it be me (Everly brothers), Games people play (Joe South) and Maybe I'm amazed (Paul McCartney).
This is a fine collection in its way but there is nothing here that cannot be found elsewhere. If you just want some of Petula's music and aren't concerned about whether the songs were her own hits or not, this may suit you.
