Meine Carly-Simon Empfehlung für Einsteiger (8. Juni 2008)

Reflections eines langen, erfolgreichen Musikerlebens. Viele bekannte, wundervolle Songs, die CS in ihrer über 40 Jahre dauernden Karriere aufgenommen hat, gibt's hier auf einer Scheibe.
Beinhaltet auch das kraftvolle: 'Let The River Run' (Titelsong aus 'Working Girl), für den Carly Simon den Oscar und den 'Golden Globe' bekam.

Wer noch keine CD von Carly Simon besitzt oder vielleicht noch nie etwas von dieser phantastischen Sängerin gehört hat, sollte sich unbedingt 'Reflections' kaufen - absolut empfehlenswert!

A Remastered Masterpiece! (6. Oktober 2005)

For nearly four decades, Carly Simon has been producing top-notch high quality songs. This `remastered' collection contains all of her best and its hard to argue about which succeeds better than others. From the achingly lamentable, "That's The Way I've Always Heard It Should Be" to the emotional anthem, "Let The River Run", Carly pulls no punches with her strong voice or slick arrangements. Few female singers have such a strong band or percussion backing them, which has proven to be a Carly Simon trademark. You may have had an overdose of some songs, "You're So Vain" or "Nobody Does It Better", but they are intensely catchy at the very least. There are two distinctly different duets here. James Taylor playfully counters with a `call/response' technique on "Mockingbird, but the real surprise is the country flavored "Amity" with Sally Taylor. It's all in the family and it all sounds fantastic!

Ich habe getan, was ich schon lange tun wollte und mir endlich eine Carly-Simon-CD gekauft. Dass ich gerade diese CD ausgesucht habe, war Zufall. Und was für ein glücklicher! Die CD ist absolut super. Obwohl ich gar nicht alle Titel kannte, gibt es nicht einen einzigen Song, den ich von dieser CD streichen würde. Alle Lieder sind toll. Und dann gibt es da noch die ganzen tollen Songs, die man einfach immer und immer wieder hören muss, wie zum Beispiel Track 14 "You belong to me" - einfach Klasse.

Ich kann diese CD nur empfehlen - jedem, nicht nur eingefleischten Fans.

A great introduction to Carly's music (26. Oktober 2004)

Carly has had long and distinguished career but this collection manages to include most of the essentials although there is a double CD (Anthology) that covers her career more comprehensively.

From my perspective, there were two peaks in Carly's career - her seventies hits and her late eighties album, Coming around again. Between them, they dominate this collection, although there are other great tracks here.

Carly began her successful period in the seventies via the American hits That's the way I've always heard it should be and Anticipation. Britain then discovered her music and subsequent hits charted in both the UK and USA, though Carly remained more popular in America. Her international hits from the seventies include You're so vain, The right thing to do, Mockingbird (a duet with James Taylor) and Nobody does it better (a James Bond theme). Carly's only big hit of the early eighties was Why, although she released some interesting albums during that time. In the late eighties came the album Coming around again, possibly her best ever. It is represented by The stuff that dreams are made of, All I want is you, Give me all night and the title track. A few later tracks are also included, most notably the Oscar-winning Let the river run (from Working girl).

The track listing here is similar but not identical to the old UK compilation Nobody does it better, so anybody who has that does not need this. It is also worth noting that this compilation has slightly different track listings in the UK and the USA although if you really want the tracks on one but not the other, the best solution may be to buy Anthology.

As an introduction to Carly's music, this is brilliant.
